How to Obtain Copies and Archive Requests

If the case was filed on or after December 1, 2003, case documents are available from our electronic case filing system.

If the case was filed before December 1, 2003, some case documents may be available from our electronic case filing system. Please contact the Clerk’s Office to verify whether case documents are available.

When requesting copies, provide (1) the Bankruptcy Case Number, (2) Debtor(s) Name, and (3) the specific document(s) you want copied and the number of copies, and (4) a contact phone number. Here are some ways you can obtain copies of documents:

(1)  In person at one of our office locations by using our public computer. Visit www.ksb.uscourts.gov to see office hours and location.
(2)  Submit a letter to the Court. The letter must include the above information and a self-addressed, postage prepaid envelope.
(3)  Obtain electronic copies of filed documents through Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) at a charge of $0.10 per page.

See the Fee Schedule for retrieval and copy fees.

Additional search fees may apply.

Closed files and archived records

If the case was closed prior to December 1, 2003, the entire case file was shipped to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). NARA is the storage facility for most of the court’s closed files. Case files that were shipped to NARA may be available at the National Archives at Kansas City. Visit www.archives.gov/kansas-city/bankruptcy-case-files for more information on requesting bankruptcy case files.

If you wish to obtain copies of court records that are stored at NARA, you must first obtain Federal Records Center (FRC) information from the bankruptcy court. This information is available over the phone. Please contact the office location—Kansas City, Topeka, or Wichita—where your bankruptcy case was filed.

Payment methods accepted

Cash, check, or money order for the exact fee are accepted at the Clerk's Office. The Clerk's Office cannot make change or accept credit or debit cards at the public counter. The Court does not accept checks from current debtors. Attorneys may pay with a credit or debit card by docketing the Online Payment of Fee event. If you retrieve copies through PACER, you can use a credit or debit card.
